Have you been treating yourself like a hamster when it comes to your fitness? If you aren't familiar with a hamster wheel, let me refresh your memory: hamster's run around and around on their wheel all day and go (literally) nowhere. Do you spend 5-7 days a week going around and around on a treadmill (or other cardio machine) at the gym? If that statement describes you, then yes, you are in fact a hamster. You have all the answers when it comes to your fitness and you refuse to change anything about your daily routine. You make it to the gym (applause for GETTING yourself there), you make a two minute attempt at stretching and then head straight for the treadmill with your mind set on hitting x number of miles. You focus solely on duration instead of quality. NEWS FLASH: your ten mile crawl is hardly raising your heart rate and is defiantely not providing you with any fat loss. If you find yourself familiarizing with these statements STOP; it's time to re-evaluate. When was the last time you changed your fitness routine (and I don't mean increase from a 1mile walk/jog to a 5mile jog)? Took a class? Lifted a weight besides your purse? Why are you so reluctant to change your routine, to exit the hamster wheel? When is the last time you saw a REAL change in your body (mental or physical)? It's time to step out of your comfort zone and yes GET OFF THE CARDIO WHEEL and focus on a results driven fitness regimen. Go try that class that you pass by everyday. Grab a dumbbell (better yet grab two!). Sign up for a personal training session (or two). You already belong to a gym, why not take advantage of all they have to offer? Why settle for marginal results from hours and hours of running when you find great results by more efficient workouts? Here's my challenge to all of you "hamsters" out there: on your next visit to the gym, skip your typical boring cardio-infested workout and walk to the other side of the gym. I promise you that muscle head across the way is not looking at you or judging you (he is way too focused on himself to notice anyone else). Explore what else is out there. Challenge your muscles, your body, and your mind. That's where real results lie.
